No. Fiumara was not smuggled out of prison in a car trunk but caught meeting associates while under parole restrictions, traveling in a car trunk from and to his house.

Quote:
In April 1999, Fiumara was returned to prison on a parole violation. To meet with Genovese superiors and associates in New York City, Fiumara had been driven to the meetings hiding in car trunks. Fiumara was to be released in 2002, however in 2003, Fiumara received another eight-month parole violation. Fiumara had been in contact with Coppola, still a fugitive, and failed to report the contact to law enforcement.

Along with this, there are other numerous articles which state that while in prison, he'd be driven to meetings hiding in the truck of cars. You may be correct in that this never happened. But it's stated as happening in more places than one.

But I see what you mean now, it's the way it's interpreted. He was sent back to jail on a parole violation after being spotted being driven to meetings hidden in the car trunk. However that's not exactly what that excerpt says, one reads that and can rightfully assume that while in prison he was driven to meetings in car trunks, which seems to be the case, and that's why it's mentioned as such in numerous articles and posters on forums like this one. I stand corrected, my friend.
