I think Vic's fate in The Shield was just about as bad as being jailed or killed. He was forced to be a desk stooge (something he always despised) and had no real clout - which is why he walked out. And nobody else was going to hire him. He loved the authority that came from being a member of law enforcement and now that was gone.


I understand that's what the writers were going for, that Vic not being a cop on the street is worse than being in jail. If that was the case though why did Vic not just reject the offer and go to prison? Also it's ridiculous to believe that this would be worse than prison for him, he would've been manhandled in prison being an ex-cop and all. I did like the way they handled the rest of the STRIKE team though, Shanes fate in particular was messed up.
