Never knew about it until I started reading "Boss of Bosses" recently. It's a book about Castellano that was written by FBI agents Joe O'Brien and Andy Kurins, who were part of the FBI's Gambino Squad in the 1980's.

I've read it more than once, which is rare for me because most mob bios are poorly written. There's a lot of bullshit about how they actually wired the house up. But the book itself was VERY well written.

Their ghostwriter on that project was Laurence Shames. He's a wonderful novelist. After he finished "Boss of Bosses," he used that research to write a series of comic crime novels set in Key West, Florida. If you enjoy comic crime fiction (like Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, et al.), you'll enjoy Shames.
