As wonderfully evil as Borgnine could be in movies I enjoyed him most in "Marty". He really captured the character with a big heart and portrayed it perfectly.

I think that was Borginine's true character (I like to think that, anyway). And you're right, he played a wonderful "heavy." But he could also be very endearing, like he was in "Marty."

In one of his last films, "Red," he played a record keeper in a government building. He only had a scene or two with Bruce Willis, but he played the kindly old grandpa type to a tee. So I like to think he was more like those characters than Fatso Judson in "From Here to Eternity." Fatso was a truly rotten character (and he was even worse in the book).
