What is Naples Italy like? I have heard different things about it, and they are conflicting.

A former roommate of mine who does not really enjoy large cities said that it's large, very dirty, and something not nice about it. He said that for an American or person who is not Italian going Naples is akin to someone that's Italian or not American going to Detroit, North Philadelphia/Camden NJ, or the most dangerous parts of NYC. He also is Italian and said that most people if or when they can leave Naples.

Another friend of mine who has a heritage from Naples said that the city is large and it's beautiful there. She also said like any large city there are good places and bad places.
