Never really a problem, except that Sicilians did not speak proper Italian for a long time, it was broken dialect. Sicilian children that go to grammer school are taught proper Italian now a days.


Children in Sicily were always taught proper Italian in school. The difference, is that way back when, kids wouldn't go past grammAr school, so they only really spoke what they heard around the house, which naturally, was dialect.
