I mean, really, how far removed is this from White people laying in a tanning bed or living at the beach in the summer to get darker (which I myself have been "guilty" of), or from Black folks straightening their hair back in the '50s and '60s?

I think it's human nature to not be a hundred percent comfortable in your own skin.
