Also, I work a lot in Jersey, especially near Perth Amboy/Sayerville area. No one has the "Jersey" accent portrayed in the Sopranos.

I thought that was Gandolfini's one failing in that role. In the first season he had no accent at all. Then he went completely over the top with his "mudda" and everything else.

And don't get me started about how Carmela called Tony's girlfriend his Gooo-Marr, with a hard arrr. Ridiculous. Italian American slang sounds like goo-mod. The second syllable should sound like the mod in Mod Squad.
