Big reason is the cameras everywhere, as soon as someone commits a crime, their picture is up on community message boards and if it's serious enough, they get their photo shown in a newspaper or on television. The police deserve credit too, they cracked down under Giuliani and Bloomberg. Chicago and Detroit are worse than New York. This weekend in Chicago they had 36 shootings and four murders. Drug related crime is also on the rise there.
