There's very little political pull in the Mob today. In New York, anyway. We live in the world of 24 hour media. The President of the United States can't get a blowjob and keep it out of the news.

Now I'm not implying that it doesn't still happen in isolated instances at the local level. But if there was any high level corruption going on (think Senators and Congressmen), you would have read about it a long time ago.

And that lack of political pull today is one of the main differences between the old Mob and the new. I happen to think that Frank Costello was the sharpest boss ever. But Tammany Hall was a long time ago. He couldn't buy the President of the PTA today.
