A man named as one of the most powerful Mafia bosses in Toronto — who is already suing the government over his treatment by the prison and parole system — was quietly arrested and returned to a federal prison.

The province’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad arrived at the Mississauga home of Vincenzo “Jimmy” DeMaria, 59, on Nov. 14 and arrested him for an alleged breach of his lifetime parole for a murder conviction. On Tuesday, he was sent to Joyceville Institution, a medium-security prison in Kingston, the National Post has learned.

It is not known what parole condition he is alleged to have breached, but it is likely an order not to associate with people with a criminal record or involved in crime.

“We don’t know why he’s been picked up. We have been pestering the parole office for information as to what the reason is,” said John Hill, DeMaria’s lawyer.

“By all accounts he’s been an angel.”
