Firstly Phil Carlo is a degenerate liar. I remember reading all this shit like casso was there writing the words himself... Shit that just didn't happen... Or exaggerated..

However, it's unclear who the liars are. I believe that guys, like Casso and Kuklinski, told tall tales to Carlo and he wrote everything as if it was fact. That's why I consider the Gaspipe and Iceman books to be closer to ghost written autobiographies, than biographies. Carlo interviewed these guys, and wrote down whatever self serving crap they said as fact.
