Fielder is getting raked over the coals by local talk show hosts. Fans were booing him at the plate. When asked how he felt about this he said that if fans could do it they'd be out there doing it, not in the stands. While technically true lol that obviously didn't make people feel better about his slump. The Tigers overpaid for him thinking that Cabrera and Fielder would be the Bash Brothers. Not quite.

In his press conference Leyland joked that when he told his team that was it for him, they applauded and he wasn't quite sure how to take that. Leyland got a lot of heat from Monday morning quarterback types but ultimately neither he not for that matter, Fielder are solely responsible. Our payroll is too high; Fielder's contract is too long but we're built to win now. Problem (among others) is we have no bullpen. And although it won't be possible I would love to move Miggy back to first, get a better defensive third basemen and make Fielder the DH...that is if we can't find a bigger dummy to take him off our hands. But so it goes.

FWIW Leyland said he had already decided before the playoffs began that he was done.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungleā€”as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
