If things had gone differently, would Neri have made a good Boss of the Corleones? Let's assume that there was no Vincent Mancini,no Part III,and after the events in Part II, The Corleones still are a power, but Michael has either died or retired.
Neri becomes the new Don. Would he have been able to keep the Family going? On the pro side,Neri was loyal, ruthless, and a cold and efficient killer. His devotion to Mike was never in question. He even did the job on Fredo, even though I personally think it disgusted him. From being so close to the top,he undoubtedly picked up a lot of info over the years that would give him some pretty good insight into managing the Family's affairs.
On the con side,I don't know how well known he was outside of the Corleone's,hence his acceptance by the other Dons. They might view him as an easy target, who once eliminated, would leave the Corleone's business to be divvied up as spoils of war.On the other hand, they might know his reputation, and leave things as they were.
Just for fun, what do you guys(and gals) think? Would Neri be a Boss or a loss?
