I actually agree with Snickers here. My wife and I live in neighboring Delray Beach for about four months a year, and yes, there are still tons of 55+ retirement villages, but the area has gotten MUCH younger in the past ten or so years. It's a great place to live with a great arts, bar and restaurant scene, and an eclectic nightlife.

It's not South Beach, by any stretch of the imagination, but so what? South Beach is insane. Living there today is like living on the Vegas strip. Nice place to visit and all that, but if you're over thirty you'll get bored pretty quick. Give me Palm Beach County any day. Golf courses, restaurants, great weather (except for the brutal summers).
