That was very often the case.
We had a thread about this a few years ago. What I basically stated was that, having grown up with a number of these men and women in the '60s and '70s in the Belmont section of the Bronx, the women who hung out in their bars and clubs were usually pretty damaged themselves. Daddy issues. Gold diggers. Drug addicts. Blah blah blah.
Not all of them were like that, mind you. But a lot of them were.
