my sources are all the police reports or declarations of informats in the latest 20 years sure more accurate than an anonymous letter
However, the author of the book, Franco Castaldo, is considered an expert on the mafia of that particular province, I don't think he would have included that chapter in the book if it was based only on anonymous letters. He must have had other sources. I am not putting in doubt the authority of your sources, don't take offense. I was just wondering about the contradictions between your sources and the information in the book.
