I remember my mom used to wait until I was in bed, then she would set up the ironing board and put on a western, which I guess there were plenty of on TV at night. I would be in bed and could here the shooting and horse noises and the Indian war cries.

My mom used to have so much ironing. My brothers were in Catholic high school, which meant a white dress shirt every day, and my dad was a pharmacist, so he had a white smock for work. We had no dryer We lived in an apartment, and most of the laundry used to get hung on the roof in good weather. In the summer, the young women and teens in the building would sunbather up there on "Tar Beach". Anyway, seemed my mom used to have that ironing board almost every night.
