Ryder was a bit before my time but Seger is probably only second to Aretha Franklin as a Michigan icon. It was impossible to grow up in the seventies or eighties without hearing his music somewhere. He's part of the broader "Detroit" sound though his music mostly name checks Ann Arbor, 40 miles to the west. "Main Street"...
I know this is gonna sound so "against the grain" BUT of all Motown/Detroit music performers my least favorite is Aretha Franklin. I just never really was into her singing.
Of course, I have nothing against her personally and as a matter of fact a while back it was reported that she had pancreatic cancer. I felt really bad for her. Then I heard she denied that was the case. Do you know Lilo if she does have cancer? I hope not.
