Micheal never wanted to be a gangster much less the boss of the family, this is made him so cut throat and cunning. He has the attitude that if he has to be a gangster and a boss he is going to take a business attitude towards it and be the best he can be. This is what made him a good boss(if you can put good any a sentence with mob boss) the fact that if didnt even want to be one.
