Being a King fan, I was dying to see "Shawshank" when it came out, but my husband didn't want to go see a prison/rape film. One of the guys he worked with saw it and loved it so much that he told my husband that if he went and still didn't like it, he would reimburse him for his ticket. To this day, it remains one of my husband's favorite films.

I think the title put a lot of people off at the time. One interesting point, it's almost impossible to see deleted scenes from that film. The director won't release them because he feels that if they were any good to begin with, he would have left them in.

There's one scene from the book that was originally in the film and deleted.

When they find the hole in Andy's wall, they send down the guard to see where it goes. He discovers the sewer pipe and starts to yell, "Oh, shit! It's shit!" and gets sick. Morgan Freeman's character starts laughing so hard that it absolutely infuriates the warden.
