I didn't read the book but caught the movie (or at least some of it) a couple year ago. Man, it WAS disturbing. Good grief! Must have been one of Christian Bale's early films. Very creepy. Btw, I had heard they wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to be in the film but for whatever reason gave it to Bale.
