Luckily for the mob, Hughes went crazy and sold all his casino's as quickly as he had bought them, so the mob could make a comeback in the early 1970s. That's when the movie Casino begins.

Yeah, the 1960's is when the New York families and others around the country outside of the mid west sold off most of their interests. But the families in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Kansas City, and St. Louis continued to have interests in the 1970's and into the 1980's.

To answer the original question, there is really no direct mob involvement in the casinos in Vegas now. That was gone by the mid-1980's. There doesn't seem to be even indirect involvement, like mobbed up companies getting ancillary contracts with the casinos like was the case when Atlantic City legalized its casinos. Even a decade ago what was left of mob involvement in Vegas centered around street rackets like loansharking, the escort business, telemarketing scams, etc. As well as some remaining ownership in some bars, restaurants, and strip clubs.

I actually found an interesting little documentary on youtube about the mob and Vegas and it concluded that after the "Argent trial" of the mid-1980's (like you said) that the mob was gone from Las Vegas. The video as I could tell was made in the mid to late 1990's as the current strip was starting to take shape. It seemed to be complimentary towards the "Disneyland" atmosphere that was taking shape at the time.

The video also seemed to tie the "metaphoric end" of the mob's influence in Las Vegas to the demolition of the Dunes in 1993 (now the Bellagio). The Sands didn't come down until 1996 though and the Stardust lasted well into the last decade. Heck, you still have the Flamingo, Sahara, Riviera and all that still standing.
