The only reason they're doing this to Basciano is because they believed he was trying to have the judge and prosecutor assassinated. This has nothing to do with the murder of Randy Pizzolo.

Randy Pizzolo was a bottom-feeding, nickel-bag dealing, lowlife piece of shit. He was vermin. His murder was what cranky, veteran cops refer to as a "public service homicide." Being that no one in law enforcement was actually killed (or even attacked for that matter), this death penalty charge is a farce.
Now don't get me wrong. If Vinny succeeded in killing a judge, that's one thing, and that calls for the death penalty. But he didn't, so it's moot.
