Unfortunately some police are bullies. Once it was determined no crime was being committed they should have left the house. Sadly they got in a p****g match with the man and were not going to leave until they found a reason to assault him and arrest him. So it goes. Of course if my cheating wife had called the police because I wouldn't give her back her cell phone I rather think after I got out of jail and the hospital I might be looking for a new wife.
