I suppose it's fine to "consider" anything remaining. When Denver member Clarence "Chauncey" Smaldone died back in 2006, that was news.

But when the topic specifically deals with which families are still recognized by law enforcement and mob experts as formally structured and viable, you're only dealing with 9 families at this point...

2 large ones (approx. 200 members) - Genovese, Gambino
3 mid-size (approx. 100 members) - Lucchese, Colombo, Bonanno
4 small ones (approx. 50 members) - Chicago, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia

Now this doesn't mean last guy in this or that city is dead. Or that there still isn't at least some mob-connected gambling going on here or there. But more or less remnants of families now. Not enough to even be on the radar.
