POST-TRIBUNE STAFF REPORT

A puppy stolen from the Porter County Animal Shelter earlier this week was recovered Friday.

The Porter County Sheriff's Department arrested Michelle Baugh of Valparaiso for stealing the 6-week-old puppy.

Police say the 39-year-old woman admitted to stealing the puppy on Tuesday. She was arrested for Class D felony theft.

Surveillance cameras showed a woman removing the border collie mix from its kennel.

The woman then placed the puppy inside her purse and left the shelter, 2056 Heavlin Road in Valparaiso. An employee noticed the empty kennel and alerted the staff.

The puppy had been on hold for adoption and was being treated for an upper respiratory infection.

One of the shelter's employees recognized the woman as Baugh.

Baugh's daughter had previously volunteered at the shelter.

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.
