I don't know much about hot water heaters, but I've had to purchase a couple in my lifetime and I never paid that much. I think maybe installed $300 or so. And that price includes a metal strap required in in CA for earthquake protection. But damn!!! Maybe you have an extra big, extra good hot water heater. That's an awful huge price.
