I'm going to stick my neck out & admit that I actually enjoyed both the Winegardner books as well.
Isn't it enough that you got your nose cut in Chinatown? Now you wanna get your head cut off?
I understand your point, JJ. The books were worthwhile reading ONLY because they were on a subject that I find fascinating (although they did not add anything to that fascination).
