LEWIS CENTER, Ohio — The Delaware County Sheriff's Office released surveillance photos on Thursday of fuel being stolen at a gas station.

According to the sheriff's office, fuel from the Speedway station located on U.S. 23 was stolen three times since March 30. The other incidents occurred on May 12 and June 3.

Sheriff Walter Davis said that the thefts are believed to be connected.

Thieves stole 524 gallons of diesel fuel, valued at $2,483, Davis said.

Surveillance taken from the gas station showed a white minivan pulling up to the diesel fuel storage cap, opening the cap and siphoning fuel from the underground storage tank into a bladder in the van. Another car parked between the van and the gas station, blocking the view of the attendants.

"There are increasing reports of fuel thefts all over the country," Davis said. "The sheriff's office will be vigilant in finding and arresting anyone in connection to these or any fuel thefts. They are serious crimes."

Who here is old enough to remember when people started syphoning gasoline from cars during the energy crisis? It's only a matter of time before it begins to happen once again. Mark my words.

OK, time for me to watch THE ROAD WARRIOR again to get some "tips" for this new world of ours.
