NO-ONE is taking responsibility for a disused building which has become a drugs den in Worksop town centre.
A number of needles and other drug paraphernalia have been found inside the dilapidated, derelict building, situated beside the car park on Memorial Avenue.

Several residents have voiced their concerns about the dangers that such a den, which was the scene of a recent sexual attack, poses to the community.

"It's disgusting," said Jim Scott, of Kingston Close, Manton.

"It should be knocked down, or at least boarded up. It's very dangerous."

The building is situated a short distance away from Lilliput Day Nursery which looks after children aged between six weeks and five years old, as well as those up to 12 in its After School Club.

"We have been aware of the problem for some time," said Anne-Louise Hill, centre manager.

"The police have been really good in giving us advice to deal with potential problems but we would rather it was pulled down."

"We've had lots of complaints from concerned parents."

"The hut is not very pleasant to have around. We have been working closely with the council to ensure the safety of the children in our care."

Jim Bedford, of Gateford, has two young children who go to the nursery and says that children may not realise that picking up needles is dangerous.

"It should be sorted," said Mr Bedford, whose children are three and six years old.

"My children have toy syringes amongst their games and things so they wouldn't know that to pick one up would be wrong."

Notts Police say that they have been keeping a close eye on the building which has been identified as a problem within the town.

"We have been paying attention to the disused building because of complaints about drug misuse and anti-social behaviour," said Pc Mark Lee, town centre beat manager.

"Derelict buildings can often attract this type of behaviour, and as a long term solution we will be looking to the council as to the possibility of having the building demolished to eradicate these problems."

However, a solution to the problem site could be further away as both Bassetlaw Council and Notts County Council have said that the building does not belong to them
