Sansho the Bailiff*** My first Mizoguchi film. This is a tragic story of human suffering and faith in goodness in spite of it. It unfolds like a folk tale (which it is), where fate plays a big role in the final destinies of characters, even if it means unbelievable coincidences spanning decades in time. The film did not affect me on any personal level, though I liked it.
