I just found out today that pasta is Chinese, pizza is Greek (though Margherita is Italian), sushi is French, fish and chips is Jewish and all sorts of other unsettling historical facts.
We live in a world of

Jamie's Italy, which was regarded as the BEST Italian cookbook of 2006 in many circles. It's kind of relative to your point; here's Jamie, an Englishman, getting 5 stars for writing an Italian cookbook. Constructed habit; that's a good way to put it.
