At the time, Pacino was paid roughly $5 million dollars for Part III. To be offering a renowned character actor like Duvall, considering how long he had been around and the renowned film projects he'd done, about a fourth of that is a little insulting. Personally, I feel he was being surprisingly modest by saying he had no problem Pacino getting twice what he did.
