But this is so typical for gangster movies, not only the Godfather but also Godfellas and Scarface. A happy beginning that ends in tragedy.
Even though that is true. The ending to the GF trilogy was tragic in a very different way than say Scarface ended. There was no "go out in a hail of bullets" type ending. I think thats why GF is so enduring.
