Because the further you get from Vito Corleone and his era, the further you get from the impact of the original Godfather story. Then what, dream up a son for Vincent to take over after him? And so on, and so on....??? It would mean absolutely nothing to depict a current-day descendant of Vito. It would be nothing more than a modern mob story. Puzo is dead. The story has ended. Let's appreciate the treasure we have. It's over.
