March 23, 2024

Last Wednesday, police in Ecuador announced that they had busted a drug organization that transported Colombian cocaine to destinations in Europe with a stopover in Gambia, West Africa. Twelve people have been arrested.

Cans
The director of the anti-drug police said the arrests were the result of 36 months of investigation. There have been ten raids on locations in the coastal provinces of Manabí and Guayas, where the major container port of Guayaquil is located. The cocaine was collected in Manabí warehouses and then went to other warehouses near Guayaquil. From there, packages of cocaine were loaded into containers containing various deck cargoes, including cans of fish and seafood.

Gambia
The containers were destined for Gambia. The cocaine was stored again in Gambia and then transported to Europe.

Cocaine is often sailed north from West Africa on seagoing vessels and transferred to fishing vessels on the high seas and transported to destinations in Southern Europe.
