ONE LIFE

Based on true events, Anthony Hopkins plays Nicholas Winton, an English banker who is compelled to assist with evacuating the children of Czechoslovakia before the Nazi invasion of their country. A harrowing tale of families being separated, many never to be reunited even after the war and Winton carries that guilt similar to Oskar Schindler at the end of SCHINDLER'S LIST. The story is somewhat reminiscent of SCHINDLER'S LIST but on a smaller scale. The first half of the film follows a young Winton, this time played by Johnny Flynn and his team as they scour England for resources (monetary, governmental to help assist in getting the children processed, as well as finding foster homes for them in England). The second half focuses on the time period where the film begins, which is in 1987. Overall, the film is heart-wrenching but also inspirational, showing what one determined man can do and how selfless acts can change generations and the world. 6/10
