Utrecht - Five men who were arrested last year in a secret bar of the banned Hells Angels were today given a conditional prison sentence of one month. They themselves felt that they did nothing wrong, because as a local branch of the motorcycle club they would not fall under the national ban. The judge disagreed.
The police raided the clubhouse in the center of Utrecht in March last year and arrested the men there. There were suspicions that the building did not serve as a home, but as a pub. Those suspicions turned out to be correct. There were posters and photos in the building that referred to the Hells Angels and the police also found jackets and T-shirts with images and texts from the club.
In addition, one of the men had several so-called pony packs, envelopes containing drugs, and an extendable baton with him. He was fined 950 euros on top of his suspended prison sentence.
The five themselves indicated that they came together as members of a Utrecht branch of the Angels and that the ban on the Hells Angels Holland therefore did not apply to them. The court did not agree with this: it stated that the club nights in Utrecht were a continuation of the banned motorcycle club.
The Hells Angels were permanently banned in 2022 after a ruling by the Supreme Court. Several clubs have also been banned after similar procedures, for example motorcycle club Satudarah.
