Letter of death threats to Gratteri. Judicial police: the author arrested
06 February 2024
The agents of the Flying Squad of Salerno and that of Catanzaro arrested Salvo Mirarchi , investigated for threatening a public official aggravated by the mafia method and already sentenced last September in the context of 'The Keys' trial to eight years in prison.
The investigations, specifically, started from a letter received by the Catanzaro prosecutor's office with which an anonymous person had threatened the then public prosecutor Nicola Gratteri and the prosecutor Debora Rizza with death if the current suspect was not freed by the end of 2023.
In the letter, the investigators wrote, "serious death threats were made against the two magistrates, also stating that they would be the victim of an attack to be carried out with the use of a bazooka". Furthermore, Mirarchi feared transversal revenge against the current prosecutor of Naples. According to the indictment, in fact, the suspect also threatened "the brother of doctor Gratteri with death" and saying that it was known where he lived" and "also saying that the routes that doctor Gratteri took with the company car in use by him".
According to the judicial police, Mirarchi - as reported in a note from the prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli - could be the author of the letter.
It should be remembered that Gratteri has been under guard for more than thirty years and that following other death threats his escort had been further strengthened.
