International drug trafficking: Leonardo Ferro, fugitive from the 'Ndrangheta Gallace clan, arrested in the Dominican Republic Jan.25, 2024

Leonardo Ferro was subjected to provisional arrest for the purposes of extradition in Santiago de Los Caballeros, in the Dominican Republic, having escaped the execution of a precautionary measure in prison adopted against him by the GIP at the Court of Catanzaro. The precautionary measure was issued on the basis of the believed existence of the crime of international trafficking of narcotic substances.

In particular, Ferro was charged with the purchase and importation of cocaine for a total quantity of 454 kg, in collaboration with another suspect sentenced following the summary judgment of first degree as he was considered an exponent of the criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking activities, mainly of the cocaine type, in the context of the interests of the 'ndrangheta Gallace gang operating in Guardavalle (Cz). Ferro's research was initiated by the Ican Unit with the support of experts from the countries concerned, in particular with the Security Expert in the Dominican Republic, at the conclusion of the operational meetings between the Central Criminal Police Directorate - SCIP, the Secretariat General of the Interpol of LYON-I-CAN Project, the Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri provincial command of Bologna and Europol and with the support of Rete @on Network.
