Top court restores mafia charge for Casamonicas
Armed association also recognised for some leaders

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 16 - Italy's supreme Court of Cassation on Tuesday restored the charge of mafia association in the case of Rome's Casamonica crime family and ordered a fresh appeal trial to reset their sentences, which will therefore be lengthened.
A previous appeals trial had struck down the mafia charge, leading to shorter sentences for the 30 defendants including the leaders of the notorious clan.
The supreme court also upheld another appeal from the public prosecutor's office, recognising the aggravating circumstance of armed association against some of the leaders.
