The Rome court has handed down sentences of over 80 years in prison to 8 members of the Casamonica clan, confirming the charge of mafia-style criminal association. Among the crimes contested in various capacities by prosecutor Edoardo De Santis are those of usury and extortion.

The judges of the first criminal section in particular sentenced, among others, Ferruccio Casamonica to 25 years, Gelsomina Di Silvio to 18 years and 2 months and Giuseppe Casamonica to 17 years. There were three acquittals including that of Emanuele Scaramuzzo, as also requested by the prosecutor.

"In a sentence with exemplary sentences, the result of having managed to clarify the specific position by demonstrating the extraneousness of our client to the disputed facts is even more important" say Scaramuzzo's defenders, the lawyers Salvatore and Federico Sciullo. The position of Raffaele Casamonica has been eliminated for health reasons, and he was also defended by the Sciullo criminal lawyers.

The investigation by the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate in 2020 led to the 'We protect Rome' operation, with around twenty arrests, bringing to light the clan's usury and extortion activities. In an interception in the documents it was said: "they have to let strong organizations enter Rome, that's why they want to destroy us! the Camorra and the Ndrangheta. It bothers him because we protect Rome."

Just a few weeks ago, the Court of Cassation also recognized 416 bis (mafia-style criminal association) against four members of the clan, already sentenced in the first and second degree with an abbreviated trial as part of the same investigation.
