MAESTRO (2023)

I don't know what to make of this Netflix movie. It's mostly about bisexual Leonard Bernstein"s (Bradley Cooper) tumultuous marriage to long-suffering actress Felicia Montealegre (Corey Mulligan)--and not much about his music. Cooper, who directed and was co-writer and producer, is incredibly intense and almost wildly joyous. His conducting scenes are mesmerizing. But much of the first part of the film (shot in B&W) is boring--a struggle to stay with it. What kept me going was Corey Mulligan as Felicia, a superb combination of tension, patience and frustration. She's memorable. The rest of the movie isn't. Watch it for the performances and the color filming. But don't expect a convincing storyline.
