A friend from my Brooklyn days had an "Italian accomplishment" that he was proud of:
He was a lawyer who was active in Democratic Party politics. One year he challenged the incumbent State Senator in the primary election. He lost miserably--except in the Italian precincts, where he did well. He was a Syrian Jew, and his last name ended in an "o." The Italians must have thought that he was a paisan.
