The top lawyers Christian Flokstra and Nico Meijering of the Ficq office stop assisting suspects in criminal cases in which a key witness is used by the judiciary. They said this on Monday morning during a session in the Marengo trial.

The lawyers accuse the Public Prosecution Service of holding on to the key witness as the 'holy grail' in investigations. They also criticize the expansion of the crown witness scheme that the Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Ye?ilgöz-Zegerius wants.

NRC writes that, according to Nico Meijering, it seems that criticism of the content of statements by crown witness Nabil B. in the Marengo trial is undesirable. 'There is no substantive response,' says Meijering. "Or the Public Prosecution Service puts words in our mouths that are not correct, only to conclude that the defense is stating things that are not correct."

It is remarkable that law firm Ficq will no longer assist suspects in criminal cases in which a key witness is central. For example, Christian Flokstra and Nico Meijering assisted various suspects in four criminal cases in which key witnesses played a role. This concerns the three extensive liquidation processes Passage, Eris and Marengo
