A vast anti-mafia operation is underway in the province of Crotone, conducted by the carabinieri of the provincial command of Crotone, to disarticulate the criminal association called Locale di Cirò .
In particular, about 150 soldiers are implementing a precautionary custody order, issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate against 31 people . In detail, these are 26 precautionary measures in prison and 5 under house arrest. The disputed crimes, for various reasons, are mafia-type criminal association, extortion and crimes relating to weapons and explosive substances, the latter aggravated by the mafia method. The arrested were traced to the municipalities of Cirò Marina, Cirò, Umbriatico, Nova Siri (MT), Trieste and in the prisons of Catanzaro and Ancona, where 2 of the recipients were already detained for other reasons.
according to police the Farao and Marincola clans would have obtained, with explicit and implicit threats, control of the ports of Cirò Marina and Cariati and controlled, under a monopoly regime, the entire fishing chain. Furthermore, the owners of the Cirò and Cirò Marina fishmongers were forced to buy fish only and exclusively from them and with resale prices decided by the affiliates themselves.
