The Police Chief of Imperia, Giuseppe Felice Peritore, has forbidden the public form for the funeral of Benito Pepè, 86, a resident of Bordighera, sentenced in recent years to six years for criminal association of the Mafia type as he was believed to have taken part in the 'locale' of 'ndrangheta present in western Liguria.
Pepè's body will be transported from the hospital of the capital directly to the cemetery of the city of palms where it will take place the rite and immediately after the burial in the presence of only the closest family members.
The 86-year-old was under house arrest, for health reasons, as he was serving a 6-year sentence for mafia association remedied following the outcome of the trial resulting from the 'Maglio 3' investigation. Acquitted in 1st degree and on appeal, the Cassation had then ordered a new 2nd degree trial.
