23 December 2022
The Court of Cassation canceled with postponement the precautionary custody order issued last May by the investigating judge Angela Mennella against the former mayor of Cosoleto Antonino Gioffré , accused by the Reggio Calabria Dda of political-mafia electoral exchange. The lawyers Fortunato Schiava and Carlo Morace gave the news in a press releasewho express their "satisfaction with the decision of the Sixth Section of the Supreme Court". The former mayor Gioffré had been arrested as part of the "Propaggine" investigation conducted against the Alvaro-Penna clan which led, in November, to the dissolution of the Municipality for mafia infiltrations. In Cosoleto, in fact, according to the magistrates "the local elections of June 2018 were heavily conditioned by the Alvaro gang in agreement with the outgoing mayor Antonino Gioffrè, then candidate and elected again". The prosecution was challenged by the lawyers Schiava and Morace according to which "the decision of the Cassation calls into question the circumstantial gravity and the configurability of the crime ascribed to Gioffrè,
