In the first instance the aggravating circumstance of the mafia had already fallen but the criminal lawyer had been sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison. Now the Court of Appeal has acquitted him with full formula because the fact does not exist.

The trial was one of the strands born of the investigation that in 2016 led to Marcello Marcatajo, a civilian and university professor, who died of a serious illness. According to the reconstruction of the prosecutor's office, the bosses Graziano dell'Acquasanta would have cleaned up the dirty money thanks to some professionals.

The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence imposed on Francesco Graziano, son of the boss Vincenzo, declaring two counts of indictment prescribed: from 4 years to 3 years and 4 months. Instead, the 2-year sentence for his wife, Maria Virginia Inserillo, has been confirmed. The positions of Rossella Collura and Giulia Valenti have been prescribed. At first instance they had both been sentenced to two years each. The trial involved several incidents of money laundering through a series of real estate sales.
